Mez Takes On Jazz With The Leftfield ‘Strings Of Light Freestyle’

One of the biggest musical upsets of this year so far (for us, anyway) was when neo-jazz outfit Yussef Kamaal broke up due to creative differences. Formed of Yussef Dayes, Kamaal Williams, and band members Mansur Brown and Tom Driessler, the band brought Jazz to a modern electronic and grime audience, selling out a number of historic venues along the way. Whilst we may never know just what musical possibilities Y.K may have reached, it seems that they inspired Mez to bring new life to their music.

Taking on the 8:32 instrumental “Strings Of Light” which appeared on Yussef Kamaal’s Black Focus album, Mez brings his grimy Nottingham flows to entirely new levels. We’re so excited he even tried this, and he actually kills it. Listen in above – this is big.
