Step Into The Poetic World Of Brother Portrait

London’s Hadiru Mahdi goes by the name of Brother Portrait. He’s been uploading music to his SoundCloud page for the past year, offering a laid back and soul-searching sound that impresses intricate lyricism over jazz-infused Hip Hop beats.

In 2016, Portrait released his navigate: in limbo EP, with standout tracks such as ‘seeview’ and ‘a searching’ (they’re my favourite anyway!) that explore the experience of a hybrid Sierra Leonean and British experience.

He released a memorable video for ‘seeview/rearview’, which Okay Africa (who premiered the video) says explores the ‘dream & nightmare’ of the black British experience. This is the video that got us into Hadiru’s music, and we are excited to see where he goes from here. Stick on his EP from start to finish – it’s an experience.
