[New] Earl Sweatshirt – Solace EP

Hardly even a month after releasing album I Don’t Like Shit, I Don’t Go Outside, rapper Earl Sweatshirt has blessed us with another new project. With hardly any promotion (except for those who were really paying attention – more on this later though) Earl dropped the 10 minute, single-stream Solace on Youtube, with nothing to accompany it but a salmon coloured background and the description “Music from when I hit the bottom and found something“.

Those die-hard Earl fans may recognise the project from an interview he did with NPR back in March, saying:

“We set up a studio at my house and I did a little project real fast […] It’s called Solace. It’s more for my mom.”

We found the project quite heart-wrenching at times, with references to his dead-grandmother and an overall-jazz inspired feel, with Earl’s lyrics propelled by piano loops and a crackly recording style.
