Is Skepta’s New Video Really A ‘Shutdown’?

Sooooooo…. Skepta dropped the video for newest track ‘Shutdown’ today. We absolutely love the song, and have been bumping it from the day it dropped. To be completely honest with you, though, we feel that there’s something slightly ‘off’ with this new video.

Directed by past FKA Twigs collaborator Grace La Doja, the video depicts Skeppy with various members of the mandem (but not who you’d usually expect – No Nov, Stormzy etc) in London’s Grade II listed Barbican Estate on the one of the sunny days we’ve been blessed with recently.

Now, we’re not even trying to hate – for all intensive purposes the video is fine. It just all seems put on. Barbican isn’t ends (flat prices start at £700,000) so I don’t know why they’re trying to make it look that way, and the entire ‘mandem chillin’ on the block’ image is clearly just a set up. We’re not even questioning Skeppy’s hood credibility at all, but we just think it’s a shame that the video is weak for no apparent reason. They should have called in Drake!

We preferred it when Skepta actually chilled on the block in his vids, and not with hipsters in East London.

Anyway, that’s just our two cents. Watch the video above and we hope you enjoy it anyway!
