Jeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeez. After months of cleverly organised show performances and radio spins, Croydon’s Bonkaz has finally released the official audio to UK urban anthem “We Run The Block”. In an admirable self-marketing ploy to build hype surrounding the song, Bonkaz kept the track under wraps, saving it exclusively for live showcases (such as this one in at Birthdays in Dalston for GRM DAILY) and plays at New York Fashion Week from Kanye West‘s right-hand-man Virgil Abloh. Bonkaz then personally informed users via snapchat that the track was ready to be released today. Production comes from East London Trio Heavytrackerz (who can also boast being behind Stormzy‘s “Not That Deep“).
Though the chorus sounds something like a roadman chant, Bonkaz told blog Pigeons and Planes of the lyrics:
““As creatives, We Run The Block. We have the freedom to create whatever we like. ‘Free up the mandem’ means grant freedom to anyone who feels restricted in their creativity. With that being said, I’ll leave you to decide who the cops are.””
Big up Bonkaz – he has us informed that the video will be dropping very soon!
Bonkaz also premiered the “We Run The Block” official remix a couple evenings ago, with help from P Money, Jendor, Mikill Pane, Youngs Teflon and Kojey Radical on the mic. Look out for that one soon aswell!
