Swearrrrrr Mick Jenkins is the future of Hip Hop. A few days ago the Chicago rapper quenched our thirst for his own brand of ‘water’ by dropping new single “Alchemy”, the first cut off upcoming EP Wave[s] (which is due to drop sometime very soon). His most recent project The Water[s] was one of the most meaningful and celebrated Hip Hop releases last year, and in this new track Mick oozes new confidence from the outset. “Alchemy”, which features Lee Bannon and ThemPeople on production, proves Mick is only just beginning in his quest for truth, and we can’t wait to hear what he finds.
The track came with an exclusive piece of accompanying artwork by Missouri painter Hayveyah Mcgowan [@hevcassocreations] and as Mick explains on Instagram:
“For every song on Wave[s] there will be unique artwork painted by the talented Woman cc’d above.
She has sat with each song, and these paintings are interpretations of them from her perspective. Prints of all paintings will be available upon Mixtape release. Appreciate art.
Thank you Hayveyah.”
For any UK fans, we have the plug for you here if you want to see him! Mick is playing the The Great Escape festival in Brighton in May, and is performing at an after-party show with Fekky and Bonkaz on May 15th (we think this is a weird choice but whatever, it’s hipster squad Noisey doing it so obviously it’s gonna be edgy). Tickets are still available so grab them here quick!
