Once again, we’ve compiled a ‘who’s who’ of what we think are the biggest artists and releases of this week. Enjoy your dose of the freshest Hip Hop and Grime. This is Tun’ Up Tuesdays (we’ve changed the name – ‘Tuesday Tunes’ was peak)
Villian Park – We Out To Get The Money
After slightly ‘blowing up’ due to a Pigeons and Planes feature, Villain Park have been on the map for a few months now, though with no new releases until yesterday. These guys’ USP seems to be the fact that they appear to have a store of bottled 90s Hip Hop magic dust which they sprinkle over their releases. Villain Park have a compeling, youthful sound that is vintage and new all at the same time.
Smoke Darko – Lord Grime [Tha Commandmant] (Mixtape)
We don’t really know much about Smoke Darko other than they work under ‘Black $ociety Records’ out of Miami. Yesterday they dropped this little piece of gold, ‘Lord Grime’, which has a gritty feel to it that we really enjoyed. Our favourite track on here is probably ‘Finesse The World’, but it’s strong as a whole. Definitely very underrated.
Bones – SoThereWeStood (EP)
You’ve heard us talk a lot about Bones before – here’s another of those sporadic releases he does. This one is a bit more singy than some of his recent others, and is worth a listen on a rainy day.
Abillyon Feat. Bobby Shmurda – Weight Up
Regardless on how you feel about his current ongoing criminal investigation, this is a tidy little track from Shmurda and Abillyon (who is a member of Shmurda’s GS9 gang if you haven’t heard of him). This is obviously something they had prerecorded, and plays with a lot of auto-tune but we still like it.
Sovren & Meez – 20/20
These two Pittsburgh rappers have linked up to release this four song collaborative EP entitled ’20/20′. It’s a strong release with intelligent lyricism and we’re looking forward to these guys releasing more.
Ghost Loft – Be Easy (Danny Seth Remix)
L.A based Ghost Loft brings in 2015 with a remix involving UK boy Danny Seth. The track is different to what we’re using to hearing Danny Seth over, but it works well and complements Danny’s hallmark wordplay.
Nebu Kiniza – ’94 Freestyle
This one from 20 year old + unsigned Nebu Kiniza from Atlanta, GA (also an artist we’re ashamed to admit we don’t know much about yet!). The track is a nostalgic look at Nebu Kiniza’s past, particularly around the year of 1994. It’s a smooth track and worth a listen.
Denzel Curry – Certified
This one dropped earlier today with the note:
‘It’s been awhile since I dropped some solo shit, Appreciate ya” being so patient while we finish up the next album. Dropping this for my fans, This won’t be featured on the next project though. Just some cool shit to start 2015 with, Shout out to all the fans I met on tour this past year. 32 Zel / Planet Shrooms coming very soon. New year. New sounds. 2055. C9 Is the future.’
We’re glad he’s back and look forward to the upcoming album.
That’s all she wrote for this week, but enjoy the tracks and check back next week for another dose of realness.
