Tuesday Tunes – 7

Once again, we’ve compiled a ‘who’s who’ of what we think are the biggest artists and releases of this week. Enjoy your dose of the freshest hip hop and grime. This is Tuesday Tunes.

Warm Brew – Can Ya Blame Me

This one’s probably our favourite recent release, so it comes first. Warm Brew are California trio Ray Wright, Serk Spliff and Manu Li. According to their website, it is Warm Brew’s ‘willingness to show you their own ups and downs in life’ that makes ‘these three MCs worth listening to in an industry oversaturated with unauthentic artists’. After listening to them, we can’t really argue. This is real, honest Hip Hop for the modern audience.

a$ap Ferg – Perfume

a$ap Ferg Ft. YG – This Side

This has been a productive week for the traplord, so we’re happy to have two brand new a$ap Ferg tracks to share. A few days ago, Ferg announced that he would be releasing a new mixtape on Black Friday, which will be entitled ‘Ferg Forever’. He then commenced to release a volley of new tracks to whet our appetites, including these two new bangers. Check out the tracks below, along with some of his tweets about the upcoming release.

Mumdance Ft. Novelist – Take Time

This track has been around for a few months now, but it’s only this week that this simple but cool live video was released by videographer Jeremy Cole. If you call yourself a Grime fan but you don’t know about Novelist yet, we’re sad to say that you’re seriously slacking. At only 17 years old, Novelist is the Lewisham don who is fast becoming one of the defining faces of Grime in 2014. He’s become hot property in the rave scene and is literally everywhere at the moment, shelling down venues all over the UK and Europe. He’s also a top geezer aswell; I bumped into him at Victoria Station on Friday on the way to a rave he was playing in Brighton, and we had a K Cider drinking sesh on the train together. Interestingly, he’s barely even properly released anything yet, so 2015 is going to be huge for him.

Alex Wiley – Lil Stoner Boi

Alex Wiley is one of Chicago’s most promising and exciting young artists, and this new track, released yesterday, came with a cool twist. Alex sent personal emails out to fans who commented their email addresses on his Instagram and Facebook posts, allowing some of his most closely following fans an early listen to the track before he officially uploaded it anywhere else. Check out this tweet from one of the recipients to see what the email looked like, along with the since officially released track below:

Homeboy Sandman – Holiday

This is a bonus track, from Homeboy’s recent Hallways double LP. As usual, Homeboy’s lyrics are on point, and its a relaxing track to chill to.

Dizzee Rascal – Pagans

Released only yesterday, Dizzee Rascal’s new video for ‘Pagans’ is a ridiculously over the top and violent mini martial arts quest, featuring Dizzee as a guru-type out to avenge the death of one of his students. It’s reminiscent of the ‘Couple of Stacks’ video he released for Halloween (track is even quite similar) and we love it.

Smoke Darko//Richy Samo – Killa Season

This one is from Miami based label Black Society Records, and is a fun but aggressive tune for all the killas out there.

And last but not least, Kendrick Lamar released his single ‘i’ a while back, but his performance of it on SNL this week was pretty electrifying and has got us real excited for his upcoming new album. Here’s the vid, and have another great Tuesday!
